The second international day for the release of five Cuban anti-terrorist fighters unfairly imprisoned in the US goes on with activities in Cuba and several nations Wednesday, the island s press reported.
Russian Parliament for Cuban 5

Graciela Ramirez, president for the International Committee for Justice and Freedom for the Cuban Five, stated that there will be activities in Argentina, Dominican Republic, France, Spain, Russia, England, Colombia, Peru, Ukraine and other countries.

The US solidarity committee is due to stage a rally in front of the New York Times building on December 20, to slam that country s evil press coverage of the manipulated trial against the island s anti-terrorists.

“We want to release the Cuban Five, which are unfairly sentenced for saving us from the harassment by terrorist organizations,” Ramirez told Cuban newspaper “Juventud Rebelde.” This new stage of struggle for the Cuban Five release coincides with the fifth anniversary since US judge Joan Lenard handed down sentence in the case.

Antonio Guerrero, Fernando Gonzalez, Gerardo Hernandez, Ramon LabaƱino and Rene Gonzalez were trying to thwart actions by anti-Cuban terrorist groups in Miami.

Those criminal groups have claimed about 3,500 lives and over 2,000 injured Cubans in the last 48 years.

A sculpture by Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer, representing the resistance of the Cuban Revolution against US aggression, will be erected in this capital, local press reported on Wednesday.

The 9.5-ton work is the artist s gift to President Fidel Castro, and was built in the Cubana Steelworks Company by a Brazilian sculptor and Cuban workers.

Beautiful, fantastic and already concluded, it is a matchless lesson for those who have never worked Niemeyer s technology.

Niemeyer s sculpture will be placed at the Havana s Computer Sciences University.

The seventh Congress of the Cuban University Students Federation (FEU) will center on the defense of the island and the mission to guarantee the invulnerability of the Cuban Revolution, the organization announced.

With the phrase of Jose Marti, “We are an Army of Light,” the university students participating in the Havana meeting December 18-20 will reflect on the construction of a more just, honorable, and complete society in solidarity.

The FEU, the oldest Cuban mass organization, called for the event to be marked by the educational revolution that has made Cuba a giant university through the extension of college level teaching throughout the country.

In their debates on the defense of the homeland, university Cubans will also analyze the political preparation acquired in their studies centers, the document issued by FEU stated.

The social vocation of that sector, its participation in the energy revolution, the search for healthy recreation spaces, the functioning of the organization, scientific research, study and sports will be other matters for debate.

The US Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) fined famous film maker Oliver Stone for having violated the laws of the blockade against Cuba, the local press reported in this capital on Wednesday.

Stone and Ixtlan Productions Company are accused of having traveled to the Island between 2002 and 2003 to film two movies about the Cuban Revolution leader Fidel Castro.

Stone s preferences to make his films about Fidel Castro are well known, Granma daily commented in this reference.

The first movie, entitled Comandante, and ordered by HBO cable television chain, could not be shown at first due to the pressures of the Miami anti-Cuban lobby and its US rightwing sponsors.

Stone had to accept to refilm film with interviews of employees of the US Interest Section in Havana, with his new production Looking for Fidel.

It is very likely that the OFAC officials have written down Stone s declarations during the premiere of Looking for Fidel in San Sebastian, Spain, where he said “Castro is a great host. He looks at you in the eye. I had the feeling that he trusted me, and I liked that.”

“I had the chance to ask all questions about the country s internal conflicts, the Island s future after Fidel Castro and the international pressure Cuban undergoes, especially that caused by the US President George W. Bush s government,” he said.

“Castro is one of the wisest men ever, a survivor and a Quijote. I admire his revolution, his self confidence and honesty,” he assured.

US people are victimized by not being allowed to travel freely to the Island, by those who practice the criminal blockade against Cuba, Granma said.
