UN Council Called to Task by Cuba
Cuban Ambassador to the United Nations Rodrigo Malmierca pointed out to the Security Council Thursday that it is impossible to eliminate terrorism if some forms are condemned while others are suppressed, tolerated, or justified.Venez Condemns US Double Standard
The diplomat recalled to the Council that Cuba has given detailed information to the Council´s Committee against Terrorism about terrorist acts against Cuba by individuals and organizations under the culpable protection of the US government, but there has been not a single action or evaluation or even an opening of an investigation.
Oct. 6 will be another anniversary of the “monstrous act of terrorism committed against 73 innocent passengers” when a Cuban plane was blown up, which crime was admitted by Orlando Bosch, now freely walking the streets in the United States.
The Security Council, Malmierca reminded the members, is duty bound to hold the US to its obligations under Resolution 1373.
When Cuba presented its resolution, the US representative said to hear it would be a “waste of time”, and nothing was done.
The ambassador referred to the paradox whereby the United States threatens the entire world with a hypocritical campaign against terrorism, while protecting terrorists in its territory and holding prisoner five valiant Cubans who were indeed fighting terrorism.
The US government has even recognized that Posada Carriles, another of those responsible for the Cuban airplane bombing, is a dangerous terrorist, yet it refuses to fulfill its international obligation to bring him to trial or extradite him to Venezuela.
