Largest Cuban Grass Roots Org Turns 46
The Committee for the Defense of the Revolution, Cubas largest popular organization, is celebrating its 46th anniversary since founding, with the commitment to extend political and social work nationwide.
Cuban leaders recognize that the CDR’s tasks are ever more comprehensive and necessary as, apart from mobilizing the people in activities for defense, they facilitate the work of other social organizations and institutions.
CDRs welcome all volunteers over 14 years of age, who also coordinate blood donations, collect raw materials, work with social workers, as well as other activities in health and education.
The CDR, founded on September 30, 1960 at the request of then Prime Minister Fidel Castro, are considered “a mainstay in the political system, and a guarantee in the ideological battle against the enemies of the Revolution inside and outside the country.
