Cuba is advancing in providing social access to Internet through the opening of connections in schools, medical centers and other state entities, among which Youth Computing Clubs (JCE) stand out.
These institutions, pioneers of the free and mass program of the Revolution intended to provide computing education to people of all ages, constitute an important link to widen people’s access to the world network.
At present, it is not possible to offer open access to the public, however, the service is limited to experts as a fundamental tool to achieve an integral improvement, said JCE Deputy Director Ernesto Rodriguez.
According to the official, 550 out of the 600 Youth Computing Clubs nationwide have internet access. The technical staff (more than 5,400 professionals) not only gets updated through the network but places own contents on it.
We count on 169 web sites, one per each municipality, what makes possible that cybernauts know about the Cuban reality from its most deep roots. Thus, it is possible to have each territory’s culture and history told by its own figures, Rodriguez added.
The Cuban project favors the interchange with other nations boosting similar computing programs as in the case of the Caribbean model which stands out for its free character and mass reach.
