Outstanding Cuban journalist Joaquin Oramas Roque, Jose Marti National Journalism Award winner for his lifetime of work, died Thursday evening aged 74 years old of a heart attack.

Oramas, founder of Granma daily, the official organ of Cuba´s Communist Party (PCC), was head of Granma International editorial department.

Also founder of Prensa Latina, the renowned pressman was a PCC member and several times decorated with medals and awards.

For many years, he was reporter for Granma newspaper and teacher of Journalism, worked on documents and history books and was linked to the revolutionary Directorate members during the 1952-1958clandestine fight as a Radio Reloj correspondent.
