Cuba is a model for vaccination programs and has a lot to teach the rest of the world, said Dr. Lea Guido, representative in Cuba for the Pan American Health Organization, in an activity for culmination of vaccination week in the Americas Friday.

The leadership and methodology for vaccinations, created and supported by the policy of the Cuban government for more than 40 years, let Cuba be the first in America to eradicate poliomyelitis, Dr. Guido noted.

Dr. Guido spoke of the success in regional countries and the 30-year effort made to vaccinate millions of children.

This vaccination week in the Americas coincided with the second stage of the 45th Campaign against Poliomyelitis, in which more than half a million children were vaccinated.
