Cuba Fosters Intensive Fish Raising
Havana.- Cuba’s fishing industry, which has greatly contributed to food production in the country, is boosting intensive fish raising to increase captures.
Precisely, that is one of the methods being used by aquiculture workers in eastern Las Tunas province, where 200 floating cages have been planted in the region’s reservoirs to capture 200 tons of tilapias, and where local companies are raising catfish.
Experts said that these techniques will contribute to increasing captures to more than 1,000 tons. Artificial fish raising was seriously affected by the drought that hit the country in recent years
The experts are also working on the application of traditional extensive methods to make better use of the reservoirs.
The fishing sector is building facilities throughout the country to increase production of fries, which are later transferred to reservoirs.
